Lip Blushing Procedure Contraindications

Before undergoing the Lip Blushing procedure, it's essential to be aware of the potential contraindications. These are conditions or factors that may make the procedure unsuitable or require special consideration. If you have any of the following conditions or situations, please inform me during your consultation to ensure your safety and the best possible results.

Health and Medical Conditions

  • Uncontrolled Diabetes:
Individuals with uncontrolled diabetes may experience slower healing times and increased risk of infection, making them unsuitable candidates for Lip Blushing.
  • Blood Disorders:
Conditions such as hemophilia or other blood disorders that affect clotting can increase the risk of excessive bleeding during the procedure.
  • Keloid Scarring:
If you have a history of keloid scarring or hypertrophic scars, you may not be a suitable candidate as the procedure involves minor trauma to the skin, which could trigger excessive scar formation.
  • Herpes Simplex Virus (Cold Sores):
If you have a history of cold sores, you must take antiviral medication before and after the procedure to prevent an outbreak. The procedure can trigger an outbreak, even if you have not had one in a long time.
  • Autoimmune Diseases:
Certain autoimmune conditions, such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, can affect the healing process and increase the risk of complications.
  • Recent Cosmetic Procedures:
If you have recently undergone any cosmetic procedures on or near your lips, such as fillers, chemical peels, or laser treatments, you should wait until the area is fully healed before having Lip Blushing done.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
Lip Blushing is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women due to the potential risk of infection and the lack of research on the effects of pigments and anesthetics on infants.
  • Skin Conditions:
Conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis on the lips or surrounding area can affect the outcome of the procedure and increase the risk of complications.

Medications and Substances

  • Blood Thinners:
Medications like aspirin, ibuprofen, and prescription blood thinners can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising. It's important to avoid these medications at least 48 hours before the procedure, but consult with your healthcare provider before discontinuing any prescribed medication.
  • Retinol and Strong Skincare Products:
Avoid using retinol, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), and other strong skincare products on the lip area for at least a week before the procedure, as they can cause increased sensitivity and irritation.
  • Accutane (Isotretinoin):
Individuals currently taking Accutane or who have taken it within the past year should avoid Lip Blushing, as it can cause extreme dryness and sensitivity of the skin.

Other Considerations

  •  Recent Sunburn or Tan:
Avoid Lip Blushing if you have a recent sunburn or tan on your lips, as this can affect the healing process and pigment retention.
  • Immune System Suppression:
Individuals with a compromised immune system, either from illness or medication, should avoid the procedure as it can increase the risk of infection and complications.
  • Alcohol and Caffeine:
Avoid alcohol and caffeine 24 hours before your appointment as they can increase bleeding and sensitivity.

By ensuring you do not have any of these contraindications, you can help guarantee a safe and successful Lip Blushing procedure. Always discuss your medical history and any concerns with your technician during your consultation.

Eyeliner Procedure Contraindications

Preparation for Permanent Eyeliner Procedure

Proper preparation ensures the best results and reduces the risk of complications. Follow these steps to prepare:

  • Discontinue Certain Products:
    • Stop using Retin-A, Accutane, or any retinoids on or around the eye area at least 4 weeks before the procedure. These products thin the skin and may cause excessive sensitivity or bleeding.

  • Avoid blood thinners like aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, Vitamin E, or herbal supplements (such as ginkgo biloba) for 7 days before the procedure, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

  • Avoid Alcohol & Caffeine:
    • Refrain from consuming alcohol, caffeine, or any stimulant 24 hours before the procedure as these can thin the blood, increasing the risk of bleeding and bruising.

  • Remove Contact Lenses:
    • If you wear contact lenses, remove them before the procedure and avoid wearing them for 24-48 hours afterward, as your eyes may feel sensitive. Bring glasses if needed.

  • Eyelash Extensions:
    • Remove any eyelash extensions professionally ( do not pull them out yourself) at least 7 days prior to the procedure. Do not reapply them until after your eyeliner touch-up procedure is fully healed.

  • Avoid Lash Serums:
    • Discontinue the use of lash growth serums such as Latisse 1 month prior to the procedure ( if its a prescription lash serum stop using it 2 months prior the eyeliner procedure). These products can make the skin more sensitive around the lash line. Do not reapply the lash serum until after your eyeliner touch-up procedure is fully healed.

  • Avoid Lash Lift and Tint:
    • Best to be done 1 week before the eyeliner procedure.

  • Avoid Sun Exposure and Tanning:
    • Protect the eye area from direct sun or tanning beds for at least 2 weeks before your appointment. Tanning or sunburned skin can interfere with healing and pigment retention.

  • Stay Hydrated:
    • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the appointment to promote healing.

Contraindications for Permanent Eyeliner Procedure

Certain medical and health conditions make the permanent eyeliner procedure unsuitable. Make sure to review these contraindications:

  • Eye Infections: Conditions like conjunctivitis (pink eye), styes, blepharitis, or any current infection or irritation around the eyes are absolute contraindications.
  • Glaucoma: Those with glaucoma or increased intraocular pressure should avoid permanent eyeliner, as it can aggravate the condition.
  • Recent Eye Surgery: If you've recently had LASIK, cataract surgery, or an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty), wait at least 6 months after surgery and ensure your eyes are fully healed.
  • Chronic Dry Eyes: Permanent eyeliner may worsen symptoms of dry eyes, leading to discomfort during and after the procedure.
  • Allergies: If you're allergic to pigments, dyes, or topical anesthetics, the procedure should be avoided.
  • Bleeding Disorders: Hemophilia or use of blood-thinning medications (like Warfarin) without doctor's supervision can lead to excessive bleeding and poor healing.
  • Autoimmune Diseases: Conditions such as lupus, scleroderma, or multiple sclerosis can impair healing or cause pigment rejection.
  • Keloid Formation: If you have a history of keloid scarring, you should avoid this procedure as it may lead to unwanted scarring.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Hormonal changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding may interfere with pigment retention and affect healing.
  • Chemotherapy/Radiation Therapy: Individuals undergoing treatment should consult with their oncologist and avoid procedures until after full recovery.

Day of the Procedure: What to Expect and Additional Tips

On the day of your permanent eyeliner procedure, follow these guidelines to ensure the process goes smoothly:

  • Dress Comfortably:
    • Wear comfortable clothing, as you'll be lying down for an extended period.
  • Arrive Makeup-Free:
    • Cleanse your face thoroughly before the procedure, removing any makeup, oils, or skincare products from the eye area.
  • Stay Relaxed:
    • It's normal to feel a bit nervous, but try to stay calm. Your technician will apply a numbing cream to the eyelids to minimize discomfort.
  • Expect Slight Swelling:
    • After the procedure, it's common to experience slight swelling or redness around the eyes. Use cold compresses (not directly on the treated area) to reduce any puffiness.
  • Post-Procedure Care:
    • Avoid touching or rubbing the eyes. Your technician will provide aftercare instructions, including avoiding makeup, swimming, or intense exercise for a few days.
    • Be prepared for a slight scabbing or peeling phase, which is normal as the pigment sets.
  • Healing Time:
    • Full healing takes about 7-10 days for the outer layer of skin, but the pigment will continue to settle and may not reach its final color until 4-6 weeks post-procedure.
  • Touch-Ups:
    • A follow-up appointment is typically required 6-8 weeks after the initial procedure to assess the results and make any necessary touch-ups.

By following these guidelines, contraindications, and preparation tips, you can ensure a safe and successful permanent eyeliner procedure with optimal results. Always consult with your technician or doctor if you have any concerns or health issues.
